IMO the only way either of our viewpoints will be ratified will be the price action of the PM's. At some point, they will have to be dependent solely on supply/demand, and the capacity of the public to fund both. With the enormous amount of consumer debt, then I don't see where that demand will come from. I've heard the argument that a just a few billionaires can take either market upward. But its trillionaires that make their money off the skim. I hope I'm wrong though, but I have to see it.

But the point I'm trying to raise, not too well, is that the control of commodities is a political, not financial/economic, matter. As you pointed out, when the price got to high, then the rules were changed. Not even the Hunts, with their money, had the wherewithal to overcome the concentrated power of those that didn't want Ag to go up. And why would they? If the average guy could buy silver without need of WS and their skim, then their power would have been destroyed long ago. not happening.

But it's not about outwitting them. Know one's claiming they are able to do that. It's next to impossible to win when you are playing with a stacked deck.. The argumentis that it is becoming more difficult for them to stack the deck as more money flows in to these commodities. Eventually, assuming the demand continues to grow, the manipulation has to come to an end because, unlike the diamond trade, there is not an endless supply of Gold and silver in which to flood the market.

Unfortunately I do understand what this is, a speculative play. Ag is precisely that, and more so based on your earlier post. If the rules can be changed and you have a paper market which controls prices, not necessarily supply/demand, then its a vehicle made for manipulation. Now that doesn't make Ag a bad investment, but it isn't what some here have been claiming it is. And that's my point. If anyone thinks that they can outwit the manipulators, then have at it. If not, stay away.

The situation gives you an example of what happens to the price of silver ( and gold) when the Government is caught off guard. The argument is that they (Gov/banks) do not have enough Silver or gold left to continue to rig and manipulate prices.... for very much longer. A roughly 30% annual gain, in the silver price, over the last 5 years, suggests they are loosing their ability to control market price. It's not wise to dismiss something without understanding it.

You don't understand why silver reached $50 in the first place only to fall dramatically. The silver priced reached $54 due to a huge play by the Hunt brothers. they bought 200 million ounces of silver, equivalent to half the world's supply. It was legal and the free market at work. The FED and the COMEX conspired to change trading rules in order to bring the price back down ( illegal manipulation of the market).

Silver is a very complex metal due to hording and dumping, industrial demand, it was once used for photo processing, not long ago it was a base metal for quarters and like gold it has non industrial value for its beauty. Some people think that gold is worth only the price of a good suit for example. Gold Is Still 33% Below its Inflation Adjusted 1980 Peak. Gold has stayed even with inflation for 100s of years. Interesting stuff however, keep em coming!

It just occurred to me that individuals buying silver is just what the Government wants. That way, when the price explodes, industries won't be able to buy it back at the going rate because it won't be cost effective to manufacture products at the price point for the average person. Remember that the US dollar is reserve currency of the world - 40% of your currency is not even hold by your country. If your government started stealing your gold and silver, the rest of the world would panic and sell of their dollar reserves - that would crash the US. You're right.. BUT, what will the cost be to search the giant trash dumps of the world for all the silver that was thrown away in the 90's just because it was "too cheap to recycle"... Gold is recycled but no one really cared about recycling silver when the central banks of the world depressed the price of it.. The price is low now, but the value is HUGE - it's industrial value in modern society can't be underestimated.

I love Beach House but this was one of the worst music videos I've ever seen. It seemed like they were trying too hard to be weird and futuristic. After watching this video, I believe that Jenny is saying that she was his silver lining, but in the end of the video, the boy drowns himself. Thus came to my conclusion.
